Upon installing Windows XP, I was dismayed to learn that I was unable to effectively share files with my remaining Windows 98 machine. Thanks to a tip I came across, I was able to restore this critical functionality!

You see, Microsoft disabled the use of the NetBEUI protocol with Windows XP. However, on the WinXP installation CD, there is a means of reclaiming NetBEUI, a wonderful little protocol that only works on small, non-routed networks.

All I had to do was restore NetBEUI to my network connection properties, and I could talk to my machine again! I hope this helps things out a bit; it sure helped me.
